The Speakers Corner

Students really are concerned with mental health

"Last week I spoke at St Ambrose University in Iowa and afterwards, as I signed books and met with students, I was struck especially by two things: one, the level of concern that students had about mental illness in their peers, and two, the way in which kids were connecting to mental health services and support because they were finally able to communicate what they were going through. The topic is serious, but the atmosphere was so warm, and interactive, that the event seemed to declog everybody's mental plumbing."
